Some Common FAQS

When Do You Celebrate Eids

The MCD celebrates Eid (BOTH; Eid-ul-Fitr & Eid-ul-Adha) based on international sightings, which are confirmed in Saudi Arabia. If The moon is sighted locally (which will always take preference) then we observe Eid.

Do You Celebrate Other Islamic Festivals

The MCD only celebrates the both Eids; Eid-ul-Fitr & Eid-ul-Adha. We do not celebrate:

  • Mawlid an-Nabi: Marks the birth of Muhammad in 570
  • Isra’ & Mi’raj: The Prophet’s (ﷺ) journey from Mecca to Jerusalem, followed by his ascent to heaven and return to Mecca
Do You have any Halal Restaurants and Butchers

We have no Restaurants or Butchers that are owned or managed by Muslims. Supermarkets are frequently stocked with Halal Chicken from Trinidad and Brazil. The community members supply their own meat, but not as a business. Please always ask if the food (meat) is Halal in Restaurants before ordering.

What Activities do you have for Ramadan

At the Masjids of Roseau and Portsmouth, the community provides Iftar every night during the blessed month. Taraweeh is then performed after 1 hour and 15 minutes.
